The topic I have chosen to work with is “Troubled Teens in El Paso”. I’ve decided to focus on a specific non-profit organization here in the city called Wayside Teen Center. It is a center for teens to go when they encounter school problems, home problems, or need a place to help them get their life in order.
I have chosen this issue because I once was a troubled teen. However I did not have any information on places I could go to get help, or even knew they existed here in El Paso. I chose other options that ruined many aspects in my life and kept me from doing important things! So I think it is a wonderful thing that teens do have a place where people care about them, and I think it would be good to share this information with others and eventually help it grow!
The Wayside teen center works with teens and their troubles and gets them going on doing good things with their lives! I would just like to learn a little more about exactly what they do and how it has improved teens these days.
This topic is very important today, especially in this city, because every year we know someone or hear of someone dropping out, suffering in school because of home issues, or using their problems as excuses of not going anywhere in life. We hear different stories everyday, and yet we do nothing to try and help these teens succeed. So as students whom been there in their place and know what it is like being a teenager I think we should do more in trying to make it just a little easier for them and inform every teen that they are important in some way.
